Financial Risk Manager (ICARA) – Contract
3-month engagement | Remote | Outside IR35

We’re supporting a fast-paced financial services business seeking an experienced Financial Risk Manager to take ownership of financial and trading risk oversight. Operating within the second line of defence, this role will provide independent challenge to first-line activities while strengthening risk frameworks and regulatory compliance.

You’ll work closely with Treasury, Finance, Operations, Technology, and Risk to ensure effective risk governance across capital, market, and liquidity exposures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and enhance frameworks for capital, market, and liquidity risk, including risk appetite and balance sheet oversight
  • Lead and deliver the ICARA process in line with regulatory expectations
  • Ensure compliance with MiFIDPRU requirements and oversee associated regulatory reporting
  • Monitor risk exposures against internal and regulatory thresholds, escalating breaches where required
  • Develop and run stress testing and scenario analysis across key financial risks
  • Embed and strengthen risk management frameworks across the business (identification, controls, monitoring, remediation)
  • Partner with first-line teams to challenge risk decisions, including new product risk assessments
  • Investigate risk events and produce clear MI for senior stakeholders and governance forums

Requirements

  • Proven financial risk experience within an investment firm, trading environment, or bank (Accounting background useful)
  • Strong quantitative skillset with the ability to build and challenge risk models and assumptions
  • Solid understanding of MiFIDPRU and financial services regulation
  • Deep knowledge of capital, liquidity, and market risk
  • Experience embedding enterprise risk frameworks in dynamic environments
  • Strong stakeholder management with the ability to influence and challenge senior leaders
