Description

Senior Machine Learning Engineer
Seed · Climate tech
Onsite in New York
$150,000 - $180,000 + equity

A climate tech company building the AI layer for HVAC and heat pumps, using sensors and physics-based models to catch problems before they become costly, energy-wasting failures. Small team with a serious engineering pedigree (think self-driving cars, satellites, aerospace), now applying that rigour to one of the biggest infrastructure buildouts of the decade.

What you'll do

  • Own the issue-detection engine covering electrical, refrigerant and equipment-performance diagnostics

  • Build and ship ML, statistical and LLM-based models on real streaming sensor data

  • Set up the evaluation practice: labelled fault sets, accuracy metrics, and a harness that catches regressions before they ship

  • Turn model output into insights the field and customer teams can actually trust and use

  • Improve the data pipeline as ingestion and analysis scale up

  • Work closely with hardware, software and business teams to close the loop between field data and product

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years building and deploying ML or statistical models in production, ideally at an early-stage startup

  • Master's or higher in a quantitative field (math, physics, stats, data science) or equivalent experience

  • Strong background in time-series or sensor data: anomaly detection, forecasting, signal processing

  • Hands-on experience shipping production features with frontier LLMs, and good judgement on when to use one

  • Experience building AI evaluation systems (precision/recall, LLM-as-judge, regression testing)

  • Strong Python and solid software engineering chops, not just notebooks

  • A knack for turning a model output into something a non-technical person will actually trust

  • Bonus: HVAC, energy or building-systems experience, agentic/RAG systems, or full-stack skills

Why join?

  • Real impact on a generational climate problem, with data nobody else has

  • Strong equity at ground-floor stage

  • In-person, collaborative culture with regular team events

  • Health, dental and vision cover, 401(k), 12 weeks paid parental leave, mental health support, generous PTO
