Description

Portfolio Finance & Data Manager

Permanent | London | Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office

We are supporting a major global financial markets organisation with the appointment of a Portfolio Finance & Data Manager into its Group Portfolio Management Office.

Sitting at the intersection of Finance, Data and Transformation, this role will take ownership of the financial management and analytical oversight of a c.$70m portfolio of business and technology change.

This is a high-visibility position for someone who enjoys going beyond traditional reporting: improving how data is used, automating processes and providing senior stakeholders with the insight needed to make better investment and prioritisation decisions.

The Role

You will act as the financial and analytical lead across a significant portfolio of programmes and projects, partnering closely with Project Managers, Finance and senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Own the monthly portfolio forecasting and reporting cycle across a c.$70m change portfolio.

  • Produce insightful variance, cost and performance analysis to support senior decision-making.

  • Support annual budgeting, portfolio prioritisation and ongoing financial planning.

  • Partner with Financial Accounting through month-end, including accruals, journals, cost allocations and capitalisation.

  • Act as a key steward of portfolio data, creating a reliable single source of truth across finance and project reporting.

  • Build and enhance dashboards and management information using Power BI, Power Query and advanced Excel.

  • Partner with Project and Programme Managers on budgets, forecasts, funding and financial governance.

  • Conduct financial and execution health checks across major programmes.

  • Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting and finance processes using Power Automate, VBA, macros and other automation tools.

  • Help optimise PPM tooling and improve the integration of project, portfolio and financial data.

  • Continuously improve the controls, processes and reporting framework underpinning portfolio management.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who combines strong financial fundamentals with excellent data and analytical capability.

You will ideally bring:

  • 4–7+ years' experience across financial analysis, management/project accounting, portfolio finance or a similar environment.

  • Strong understanding of P&L, accruals, prepayments, cost allocation, budgeting and forecasting.

  • Experience working within a technology, transformation, change or project-led environment.

  • Advanced Power BI, Power Query and Excel capability.

  • A track record of building dashboards, improving reporting and turning complex data into actionable insight.

  • Experience partnering with PMOs, Programme Managers and Project Managers.

  • An interest in automation and process improvement, ideally with exposure to Power Automate, VBA or similar.

  • Exposure to SQL and PPM platforms such as Clarity, Planview or Project Online would be advantageous.

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification is desirable, although not essential.

This is an opportunity to join a globally recognised financial markets business in a role with genuine visibility and scope for impact.

Rather than simply producing the numbers, you will help shape how a major transformation portfolio is governed, analysed and managed — combining finance, technology, data and automation to improve decision-making across the organisation.
