twentyAI are supporting a €400M Revenue PE backed Software business - this is a fully remote opportunity (Europe)

The Senior Financial Controller is a senior finance leadership role responsible for actively steering, driving, and shaping the financial performance of the business.

The role goes beyond reporting and planning by transforming financial data into decisive insights that guide executive decision-making across diverse software revenue models, including subscription, perpetual licenses, maintenance, and renewals.

 

This position is exclusively focused on controlling and performance steering and does not include accounting, bookkeeping, or statutory reporting responsibilities.
As a trusted senior business partner, the Senior Financial Controller ensures financial clarity, predictability, and value creation, actively influencing strategic direction and operational execution across global operations.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Controlling & Performance Steering
  • Own and continuously evolve global controlling standards, steering models, and KPIs aligned with business strategy
  • Drive monthly performance dialogues with management, highlighting trends, root causes, and value drivers
  • Lead with insights, delivering forward-looking management reporting that supports decisive executive action
  • Actively steer financial performance across recurring and non-recurring revenue streams
  • Lead and orchestrate global budgeting, rolling forecast, and long-term planning processes with a strong focus on business impact
Revenue & Business Model Steering
  • Shape financial steering of software revenue models, including subscription, perpetual licenses, maintenance, and renewals
  • Translate recurring revenue metrics (ARR, MRR, churn, retention, renewals, lifetime value) into clear management actions
  • Steer backlog and deferred revenue development from a controlling, forecasting, and performance perspective
  • Assess revenue quality and sustainability, identifying growth levers and structural risks
  • Actively challenge commercial assumptions and support pricing and packaging decisions with robust financial insights
Business Partnering & Decision Leadership
  • Serve as a trusted sparring partner to executive management, sales, product, and operations leaders
  • Influence strategic initiatives such as go-to-market models, product launches, and market expansion through fact-based insights
  • Proactively identify risks and opportunities, driving mitigation actions and performance improvements
  • Enable management to make informed decisions by connecting financial outcomes with operational drivers
Governance, Processes & Steering Tools (Controlling Scope)
  • Design and continuously enhance controlling processes, reporting structures, and management dashboards
  • Ensure tight alignment between operational KPIs and financial steering metrics
  • Drive automation, standardization, and scalability of controlling tools (BI, planning, and reporting systems)
  • Partner closely with accounting, tax, and local finance teams to ensure consistent, high-quality data inputs, without owning accounting outcomes
 
Qualifications & Experience
Education
  • Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field
Experience
  • Significant experience in senior controlling / FP&A leadership roles
  • Strong background in software, technology, or subscription-based business models
  • Proven experience in international, multi-entity organizations
  • Deep understanding of software revenue mechanics and financial value drivers
  • Track record of influencing executive management through insights and financial leadership
  • Experience working with CRM, ERP, and marketing systems
  • Experience with CPQ tools is a plus

  • Fluent in English; additional languages are an advantage
